About the Race

Everything you need to know about the SF Perimeter Relay.

Inspiration For This Race

This race is happening because Bay To Lake is awesome, and we should have more events like that throughout the year. So this is an attempt to copy many of the fun aspects of that, while being a little different.

How it Works

Relay teams will run around San Francisco, passing a team-chosen baton at 8 required checkpoints. The race will start at SF Aquatic Park, running clockwise (the opposite direction of Bay to Lake!). Teams will earn points throughout the race, and the team with the most points wins.

Points System

Points will be awarded to teams for completing various things, including: going to the required checkpoints, their finish order, and completing bonuses. (The fastest team could win with first place, or a slower team that completes more bonuses could win too. We'll see what happens!)

The Course

The course has 8 required checkpoints but no required routes. The routes will be up to your teams to decide.

Points (That Are Known Before the Race Starts)

Finish Order: 200 for first place, 150 for second, 100 for third, 50 for fourth. Handoff checkpoint videos: 25 points will be awarded for video proof of your baton handoffs at each of the 7 handoff checkpoints (175 max).

Bonus Points from Bonus Checkpoints and Bonus Tasks

These will remain secret until they are given at the immediate start of the race. Optional, but consider bringing a towel and change of clothes. Opening the bonus points list before the start of the race is -200 points.

Sabotage!

Throughout the race teams will be given the opportunity to sabotage other teams with extra tasks. These tasks will be explained as they are being given to a team.

Teams

Runners need to form their own teams of 4 (or 5 if you have a designated driver). Keep in mind that teams will need their own car to get from checkpoint to checkpoint for baton exchanges (just like Bay to Lake). Coed teams are ideal, but I'll leave that up to everyone to decide for themselves.

Did you read the rules?

The first person to message John Walbolt and tell him “I read the rules” wins 10 points for their team.
